Veterinary Interview Process

Questions to Ask the Interviewer-

Prepare 2-3 questions. It is very important that you have questions to ask them. Here are some sample questions,


  • What are key characteristics you want this person to have?
  • What do you like best about working here?
  • What does a typical day look like?
  • Why is this position open?

During the interview make sure you are polite to everyone such as treat the receptionist, veterinary assistants, technicians, patients, and clients the same way you would the veterinarian.
Listen carefully and always maintain eye contact.
During interview practice good posture.
Avoid talking negatively about past employers, co-workers at other veterinary clinics.

  • Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you are interested in this position.
  • How long have you been practicing veterinary medicine?

  • Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
  • What breeds and types of animals are you experienced with caring for?
  • Why do you want to work at this practice or with us?
  • What is your perspective on euthanasia?
  • Discuss a time you had to deal with a difficult client and how you handled it.
  • If you have a client who is unable to pay for services, how would you handle that situation?
  • What aspects of veterinary medicine do find most challenging?
  • What are your greatest strengths and what are areas you want to improve upon?
  • When considering a new career opportunity, what do you look for in a workplace culture?
  • What skills do you feel good veterinarians should have?
  • What is the biggest difference between animal welfare and animal rights?
